Viti Water SportsSet up from the sale of Aquatrek, Viti Water Sports originally consisted of the operation at Matamanoa and the shop in Nadi town. We then moved to Martintar, then Denarau, and have had operations in Kadavu and the Lomaiviti group. Since then we have consolidated in Denarau, running the diving for Captain Cook Cruises.
Since those humble beginnings, we are now a PADI 5 Star IDC Centre, the Fiji agents for Bauer and Coltri Compressors, Scubapro and Cressi dive equipment, offer training to the industry on tank cleaning, valve inspection, oxygen servicing and also run one of the few Freediving Centres in Fiji. |
Trev Neal - Course Director
I started diving about 10 years ago, completing my PADI open water course with my wife Em on our honeymoon. For the first five years most of our diving was in the UK in quarries for training and teaching and then holidaying in Egypt for warmer diving.
After getting into a lengthy conversation, over dinner and a bottle of wine (or 2) we decided to give up our jobs and home in England and try our hand at being travelling dive instructors....we failed! Our first job was working for Viti Water Sports, owned by Mike Agnew, on the beautiful island of Matamanoa in Fiji. After 2 years we still couldn't bring ourselves to leave but wanted more of a challenge, so we bought the majority share of the Matamanoa part of Viti Water Sports and started Deep Blue Diving & Watersports along with Mike and his wife which we still own and operate today. I have found a passion for teaching Instructors after completing my IDC Staff Instructor with Andrew Redfern here in Fiji. In 2017 I ran my first IDC with 2 candidates and an imported Course Director. It was during this time that the only large IDC in Fiji ran into difficulties and stopped running and it was at this time that Mike and myself decided to partner up and start the Fiji IDC that we run today. After completing my Course Director Training Course in June 2019 we have revamped how we run the course and also added a 2nd IDC to our annual calendar. Other than instructor training I love teaching PADI TecRec, sidemount and have recently started teaching PADI Freediving. Andrew Redfern - Course DirectorAfter many years diving in the tepid murky waters of the UK, Andrew discovered the delights of tropical diving in the Caribbean. Hmm he thought, this seems like a good idea and so became a PADI Instructor while working on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
Thirty years later he has introduced several thousand people to the underwater world as well as helping many hundreds more achieve their dreams of becoming PADI Professionals. When not underwater he can be found above water attempting not to fall off windsurfers, water skis, wakeboards and even snow skis! |
Mike Agnew - Staff Instructor & Owner of Viti Water SportsOriginally from Scotland, I washed up on Fiji shores in 1999, crewing a catamaran for a lovely American family. My first job here was fixing boats in Vuda, but I then got into diving up at Nananu-I-Ra, before completing my IDC with Andrew Redfern.
I bought Viti Water Sports in 2007, and whilst spending too much time running the business and not enough diving, it’s been a great journey. Becoming a Staff Instructor (once again with Andrew) was a great way for me to appreciate the challenge of helping Divemasters become Instructors.
